Please be patient: Due to the photos, at times when we
have several strays, this page will be slow to load.
ll stray animals are held a minimum of one week and are listed in the local newspapers to give them a chance to be reunited with their families. Due to health issues, stray cats in the shelter are held a minimum of 3 weeks before being released for adoption. However, after 1 week, stray cats become property of the shelter. Applications will be taken on stray animals prior to this release date with the understanding that if the original owner is located, or if it is determined through evaluation that the animal is not suitable for adoption, the animal will not become available. (For information on reasons why an animal may not be considered suitable for adoption, please see the FAQ's on Spottie's page.) Please reference the animal number in any communication regarding a stray animal. If you have any information regarding any of our strays, please contact us.
Incoming Dog postings. LAWS requires an advance appointment for incoming owner surrenders. We will attempt to post information on animals scheduled to come in to the shelter in the coming weeks. If you are interested in an incoming animal, please contact the shelter. Sorry, photos are not available of incoming animals. Please note: We are posting incoming animals in order to help make a potential match with a new family more quickly, potentially even before we receive the animal. However, at times an owner will make an appointment to surrender an animal and then experience a change of mind. We cannot guarantee these animals will become available as they are not yet in our custody.

*Note regarding availability dates: the date listed is the absolute earliest date the animal will be able to be released to a new home as dictated by law and/or shelter policy--if the animal is considered suitable for adoption.. Applications can be and frequently are submitted and processed prior to that date. However, in many situations, generally for medical reasons or because the animal has not yet been altered, an animal who has been made available for adoption will not be able to go home on the listed date, but will require a longer stay with us until ready to go home. As stated above, with stray animals, we cannot offer any guarantee that the animal will be available for adoption at any time.
Cats
If the cat has a name listed, it is the name we have given it at the shelter. DATE AVAILABLE IS ESTIMATED EARLIEST ADOPTABLE DATE BUT CAT MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR HEALTH REASONS. "New Kittens" indicates that cat came in with a litter of young kittens, or has given birth since received.
