March 15th
The kittens are two weeks old now, and they are developing rapidly. The eyes on all of the kittens except for one are open. Like all kittens, their eyes are blue and will change color gradually starting in a few weeks. All of their umbilical cords have fallen off, and although they are not walking, they can sit up for short periods and they are crawling around more, even venturing a few inches out of their nest. They are starting to use their paws more to push on their littermates when they want them to move, and they are starting to actually groom and chew on each other a small amount. Their ability to maintain body temperature is improving, but the kittens must still curl up together to stay warm. Though Velvet still keeps a close watch over her babies, she now stays away for slightly longer periods of time. If her kittens are sleeping, she will walk over and greet a visitor at the door, and sometimes she will lay on the shelf above them and look out the window. When they are awake and hungry, though, she is still quick to return to them and care for them.
